Electric Bell Voltage, Size and Application Guide
Select an electric bell by exact voltage, nominal gong size, activation method, duty cycle and installation environment. Similar-looking bells are not automatically interchangeable.

Voltage is the first ordering variable
The supply shown on the equipment or control panel must match the ordered bell. The reviewed UC4 school and factory bell page lists AC 220V. The custom-voltage mechanical bell page lists DC 6V, 12V and 24V plus AC 220V for its stated sizes. The optional-rain-cover bell page lists DC 6V, 12V and 24V and AC 110V, 230V and 240V. These ranges belong to different product records; they should not be copied across every bell model. Ask for a model-to-voltage confirmation in the quotation. Also confirm frequency for AC supply, current or power where required by the control circuit, terminal arrangement and whether an external timer or relay is needed.

Understand nominal bell size
Bell size usually refers to the gong diameter, not the complete installed envelope. The reviewed UC4 range lists seven nominal sizes: 55, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 mm, corresponding to approximately 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 inches. The custom-voltage mechanical bell page states 6, 8 and 10 inches, while the optional-rain-cover page states 4, 6, 8 and 10 inches. A larger gong does not by itself prove a particular sound level or coverage. Request the overall dimensions, mounting-hole layout, weight and clearance needed for the striker mechanism. Use the nominal size to identify the family, then use a dimension drawing to confirm installation.

Check duty cycle and activation
The reviewed UC4 catalog warns that standard ringing should remain within 20 seconds per activation. That source-specific note should be considered when the bell is used for school periods, shift changes or repeated signaling. A requirement for longer or continuous operation must be discussed as a separate configuration rather than assumed. Define whether the bell is activated by a manual push button, fire panel, timer, relay or other controller. Confirm contact rating and wiring arrangement. The UC4 material also states a double-copper-coil feature with an exception for the 2-inch version, so the coil description must be tied to the ordered size.

Indoor, sheltered and rain-cover installations
An optional cover does not automatically make the bare bell waterproof, and the legacy bell pages contain conflicting statements about which bell fits a shown cover. Treat the cover as a separately confirmed accessory. Request the cover ordering code, compatible bell model, included hardware, final dimensions and any tested ingress-protection evidence. For exposed outdoor use, also consider corrosion, drainage, cable entry and mounting orientation. Do not advertise an IP rating unless the test report applies to the complete ordered assembly. For indoor installations, check wall strength and nearby obstructions so the gong and striker can operate freely.

Send the intended use, required voltage, nominal gong size, control method, ringing pattern, indoor or outdoor environment, estimated quantity and destination market. If replacing an existing bell, include photos of the label, terminals and mounting holes. Ask the supplier to identify the exact model and list included accessories. Can an AC 220V bell be used on a 24V DC circuit?
No. Order a model designed and confirmed for the actual supply. Voltage type and level must match the bell configuration.
Does a larger bell always sound louder?
Not as a guaranteed rule. Gong size, drive mechanism, voltage and test method all matter. Compare model-specific sound data measured under stated conditions.
Can UC4 ring continuously?
The reviewed standard catalog states ringing within 20 seconds per activation. Longer operation requires separate model and duty confirmation.
Does the rain cover make the bell waterproof?
